Tesla has been known to tweak their referral program discounts from time to time and also adjust pricing of inventory (in stock) models when it needs to move cars off the lots. Right now they’re doing both. The company just boosted the referral program discount to $2,500 on Model 3 and started cutting the prices of in-stock inventory Model Y cars to make room for the recently unveiled refreshed Model Y. They’re also continuing to offer referral and loyalty discounts on the Model S, Model X, Model Y, Model 3 and CyberTruck, though the “Launch Version” of the new refreshed Model Y is currently ineligible for the referral or loyalty discount.
Also, buyers of both the Model 3 and Model Y. in the U.S. are still eligible for the $7,500 EV tax credit, which may not be around for much longer under the new administration. So if you’ve had your eye on a Model 3 electric sedan or Model Y electric CUV, now may be a good time to pull the trigger.
The Model 3 underwent its own design refresh last year with the newer “Highland” model being offered in the US and Canada starting last January. And now it’s big brother the Model Y got its own design refresh, code named “Juniper,” with deliveries expected to begin in the United States as early as next month (March, 2025). The new Model Y is only available currently in a special “Launch Edition,” which includes Full Self-Driving, speed boost, upgraded paint and wheels, as well as other upgrades. But with the new Model Y on the table, the company has begun offering inventory discounts on in-stock inventory Model Ys.
The refreshed Model Y offers a number of enhancements over its predecessor including sportier lines, a new light bar across the front and back, a rear-seat infotainment screen, an additional front-facing camera and interior design and lighting accents. It also offers a mild 3% improvement in range with the launch edition Model Y sporting an EPA rating of 320 miles compared to a comparably equipped “old” Model Y Long Range AWD model which is rated for 311 miles. Some were surprised to see that Tesla kept the turn signal stalk on the refreshed Model Y, where they have removed it from their other refreshed models. Personally, I welcome this decision as I’ve found the steering wheel mounted turn signal buttons on the new Model 3 a bit hard to get used to. The right-side shift stalk has been removed from the refreshed Model Y with gear selection now located on the left side of the main touch screen, just like the refreshed Model 3.
To get an idea of the referral discount on the Model 3, you can now order a brand new Long Range RWD Model 3 for $39,990 before incentives. In NY State, that goes down to $31,990 for select buyers after the Federal Tax Credit of $7500 and NY State Tax Credit of $500, both of which are still active.
As for the existing Model Y, we found an inventory brand new Model Y near us for $44,630 ($37,130 after Federal Tax Credit). This is after the $500 referral or loyalty credit has been applied.
In order to get the referral or loyalty credit, be sure to use a referral link when you order the car. If you’re an existing Tesla customer, use you own referral link (though this isn’t strictly necessary). If you are not yet a Tesla owner and have a friend or family member who does own a Tesla, ask them for their referral link. If you need a referral link for the discount, feel free to use one of the ones listed below.
Tesla Referral Links for 2025:
- Save Up To $2,500 on a new Tesla Model S, 3, X, Y or Cybertruck (Christopher55570)
- Save Up To $2,500 on a new Tesla Model S, 3, X, Y or Cybertruck (Kevin51692)
- Save Up To $2,500 on a new Tesla Model S, 3, X, Y or Cybertruck (John49040)
- Save Up To $2,500 on a new Tesla Model S, 3, X, Y or Cybertruck (Brian33170)
The Bottom Line
With this new $2500 referral discount, and the availability of both the Federal tax credit as well as additional EV incentives in some states, now is a great time to buy a brand new Tesla Model 3. And with inventory discounts as well as tax credits still available on the Model Y, new buyers can pick up the popular hatchback at an excellent price as well. With the federal tax credit for EVs in jeopardy this year, prospective buyers may not want to wait too long to pick up a new EV in 2025.
