Stocks making the biggest moves midday: Apple, UnitedHealth, Humana, Broadcom, Wells Fargo and more
Check out the companies making headlines in midday trading: Tech stocks — Shares of megacap technology names fell after initially gaining amid investor optimism that the U.S. would reach deals with other countries to lower tariffs. Apple , which lost around 20% over the past three trading days given its China exposure, finished about 5% lower after rising more than 3% midday. Others such as Nvidia and Tesla also reversed course after advancing about 6% and nearly 5%, respectively. Nvidia closed 1.4% lower, while Tesla shed 4.9%. UnitedHealth Group , Humana — The leading health insurance stocks jumped after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a higher-than-expected hike for government payments to Medicare Advantage plans. Shares of UnitedHealth rose 5.4%, while Humana’s stock surged 10.7%. Wells Fargo — The bank stock moved marginally lower after climbing nearly 4% earlier in the session. Piper Sandler upgraded Wells Fargo to overweight from neutral and said the banking giant’s stock has an attractive valuation that appropriately captured the company’s improving fortunes. Broadcom — The chip stock gained 1.2% after the company authorized a $10 billion share repurchase program through the end of 2025. The authorization announcement “reflects the board’s confidence in the strength of Broadcom’s diversified semiconductor and infrastructure software product franchises,” said chief executive Hock Tan in a statement . Marvell Technology — Shares pulled back 1.9% after popping more than 7% midday following the company’s agreement to sell its auto ethernet business to Infineon Technologies in an all-cash deal valued at $2.5 billion. The deal is expected to close within 2025. Lockheed Martin — Shares popped 2.9% amid a broader advance in defense companies, after President Donald Trump pledged a $1 trillion defense budget for the full year. Janover — The stock fell 12.9%, reversing course from its more than 800% rally in the previous session, after the software company announced a crypto treasury strategy that would be focused on the Solana token . Janover also plans to revise its name and ticker symbol. Charles Schwab — The financial stock finished 0.2% lower after advancing 4.5% earlier in the trading day on the heels of Morgan Stanley’s upgrade to overweight from equal weight . Morgan Stanley said it is prioritizing brokers with defensive revenue sources and idiosyncratic drivers for earnings growth. Eli Lilly — The pharma stock added 0.4% after Goldman Sachs assumed coverage of the name at a buy rating. Analyst Asad Haider said he sees a “compelling entry point” for the stock at its current levels. Greenbrier — The railcar manufacturer lost 11.4% after slashing its full-year revenue guidance. Greenbrier now expects revenue between $3.15 billion and $3.35 billion, versus its earlier guidance of between $3.35 billion and $3.65 billion. Tilray Brands — Shares plummeted 21.2% after the company posted weaker-than-expected third-quarter results. Tilray reported adjusted EBITDA of $9 million, below the $9.7 million that analysts polled by FactSet were expecting. For net revenue, the company recorded $185.8 million, likewise below the consensus estimate of $210 million.
